Mission statement to publishers:
My purpose in writing Class of '68 was to illustrate the ability of the human spirit to excel against all odds. I gathered a lot of information and insight from my father's experiences as a college student in the 1960s. The realization that I, along with much of today's middle class, am the product of his generation of Black students prompted me to write a book chronicling events from the Black perspective. I am grateful to those courageous young people who pioneered for personal education and brought about changes that would affect forever the role of Black Americans.
My own experiences, in University as well as business settings, have made it clear to me that hostilities remain on both sides of the racial divide. It is my hope that, in coming to understand our common hopes, fears and aspirations, as well as our loving relationships, we might foster greater unity among all races and people.
It is my hope that the fictional aspects of Class of '68 will serve to enhance its universal relevance, without diminishing the seriousness of its content. I welcome your observations and comments.
Sincerely,
John Brown
