NOTE TO PUBLISHERS

Colonel Stephen D. Cork is a veteran of Vietnam and a career U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery officer with nearly 27 years of active service. He retired in 1992. His duty stations included Vietnam, Germany, Hawaii, and several posts in the United States.

In a recent interview, Steve was asked why he chose a female protagonist. He responded, "Air Defense Artillery was among the first U.S. Army combat arms specialty fully opened to female soldiers. I saw first hand the issues encountered as those soldiers assumed their new roles. My own daughter served three years of active duty. There were difficulties at every level. Problems were addressed and most were promptly solved. Some still linger. I strongly feel that the message that female soldiers are every bit as tough and capable as most males should be sent loud and clear."

When asked about the terrorist scenario, he answered, "The public can use an occasional, subtle reminder that our open society provides highly inviting targets for terrorists. Our nation has vulnerabilities that are very real. Protecting our assets and our populace needs major attention. This book sheds some light on our national shortfalls and terrorist capabilities
